17TH ANNUAL GREAT TASTE OF THE GROVE, SUNDAY, JANUARY 14, COCONUT GROVE
The year has just begun and Miami is swirling with Food & Wine events. To kick off the 17th Great Taste of the Grove, an annual food, wine and Jazz event on Sunday, January 14th from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Peacock Park, Coconut Grove, local Grove restaurants put their tastes to the test. The winner of the Best Coconut Recipe Contest held on January 3rd at the Sonesta Hotel and Suites in Coconut Grove was Chef Frank Liberoni of Café Brasserie at the Doubletree Hotel who will appear in a segment of the NBC 6 “South Florida Today” show on Friday, January 12, 2007. Among the competitors: Chef Gilberto Barrera of Cucina Creativa Ristorante; Chef Christopher Cramer of Panorama Restaurant in the Sonesta Hotel and Suites; Chef Enrique Villardefronca of Cielo Garden and SupperClub and Chef Adam Schorr of Baleen’s at Grove Isle Hotel and Spa.

The Sunday January 14th event will feature over 20 restaurants, wines and beer booths in addition to a rum bar with cocktails in keeping with the coconut flavors of the year, sodas and water. There will be Live Jazz all day long and children’s activities including a Museum of Science “Endangered Species Exhibit”, rock climbing and assorted bounce houses. DINNER IN PARADISE, ORGANIC DINNER SERIES, SUNDAY, JANUARY 14
On Sunday, January 14 at 5:00 p.m. the second Dinner in Paradise event, from the dinner series held monthly through April at Paradise Farms in Homestead, will be held with Chef Michael Schwartz (of the soon to open Michael's Genuine Food & Drink) and Chef Alberto Cabrera of Karu & Y in Miami. The dinners are a celebration of the organic and locally grown bounty of South Florida with products from A multi-course extravaganza incorporating wild game and seafood, organic produce, herbs and spices locally grown at Gabriela Marewski’s Paradise Farms in Homestead.as well as in other organic farms in South Florida farm tour will be preceded by a Farm Tour. Transportation will depart and return to Miami Beach for guests who prefer not to drive. FIU OFFERS SPRING SEMESTER 2007ADVANCED CERTIFICATE MASTERY OF WINE AND BEVERAGES
Staring on January 22 and till April 23, 2007, every Monday from 6:00pm to 8:30pm Florida International University – School of Hospitality Management is offering a Spring Semester 2007 Advanced Certificate Mastery of Wine and Beverages at the Southern Wine & Spirits Beverage Management Center, FIU Biscayne Bay Campus. The instructors: Eric Hemer, Bill Hebrank and Chip Cassidy. The course objectives: to learn, as a buyer or manager, the economics of buying and selling alcoholic beverages; improve your palate - all beverages served blind (more than 135 wines during the semester); learn how to taste and evaluate beverages; improve your wine list and inventory control; learn about the wines of the great vineyards of the world; understand wine and food pairing; study teas and coffees, distillates and beer. Registration includes book, all course materials, food paring/tastings, and parking permit for the entire semester. The cost: $695.00.

16TH ANNUAL TASTE OF THE NFL WITH CHEF ALLEN SUSSER AND THE MIAMI DOLPHINS
On Saturday, February 3, as the 16th Taste of the NFL (TNFL) will feature stations for each of the 32 NFL teams and the Pro Bowl, Chef Allen Susser will participate as a representative of the undefeated Miami Dolphins, The University of Miami Hurricanes and artist Charles Fazzino. The event is in benefit of hunger related charities. Since its founding in 1992, Taste of the NFL has raised more than $6 million for hunger-related charities and has become one of the premier events of Super Bowl weekend, hosting an average of 3,000 guests on the eve of the big game with outstanding food perfectly paired with wines, personal interaction with NFL greats, a one-of-a-kind silent auction and live entertainment. The event will be held Saturday, February 3, 2007, at the Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center.
