NIKKI BEACH COCONUT GROVE
JAZZY NEW RESTAURANT

By Simone Zarmati Diament

Nikki Beach™, Jack Penrod’s jet-setting South Beach hot spot which has expanded to trendy venues worldwide, has opened its newest sexy 3,000 sq. ft. indoor/outdoor Nikki Coconut Grove adjacent to the Sonesta Bayfront Hotel at 2889 McFarlane Road in Coconut Grove, where Tara Steakhouse used to be.

It is a whiff of South Beach with a civilized touch. The décor is jazzy, hip and airy with a large round bar that gets busier as the night sets on, custom-made furniture in natural woods from Vietnam, free-flowing white curtains, and plush champagne beds and lounge chairs.

Brian Molloy, Nikki Beach Hotel & Resort’s Executive Chef, has been assigned to open this location after opening Mexico, and Marbella. General Manager Bruce Hanrahan offers a Nikki Coconut Grove happy hour, from 4–7 p.m. seven days a week, in addition to a full lunch and dinner menu and a wide selection of wines. A street level, European-style deli café serves breakfast and lunch.

Chef de Cuisine Tommy Nguyen, formerly of Satine in Hollywood, offers a vast, friendly and reasonably-priced menu with signature dishes like a fabulous jumbo lump crab cake with avocado salsa ($15); Shrimp Rolls ($14) with crab and sweet mango chili sauce, the Nikki Grove Salad ($14) with salmon, shaved parmesan, figs, and an array of fresh rolls, sushi and sashimi.

A side and a sight not to be missed: The Trio of Fries ($10) for the table. Entrees range from Seafood linguine ($24) and a whole Yellowtail Snapper with bok choy and jasmine rice ($29) to succulent beef short ribs with Port balsamic BBQ sauce over fingerling mash ($26) and New York strip ($30) with truffled fries.
Dessert not to be missed: Dulce de leche beignets with soft whipped cream. On “Amazing Sundays” there is a five to seven course brunch and a la carte menu. Beginning February, “Themed Nights” will feature dinners paired with wines from different wine-producing regions and NIKKI STYLE Magazine will hold magazine parties and talent searches.

Nikki Coconut Grove, is open daily for lunch and dinner from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. 2889 McFarlane Road at the Sonesta Bayfront Hotel, Coconut Grove. www.nikkibeach.com.
