TEXAS DE BRAZIL RODIZIO-STYLE STEAKHOUSE MIAMI BEACH By Simone Zarmati Diament Brazilian rodizio-style steakhouse Texas de Brazil -- there are twelve branches in all of the US and now three in South Florida with a new one soon to open in Aventura - is a testimony to the evolution of Miami Beach. The luxurious second floor location at the Miami Beach Marina, 300 Alton Road was first Nick’s, then Monty’s and briefly, O-r-o. Texas de Brazil, the 30,000 square foot space with 650 seats, has been lavishly refurbished with Brazilian cherry wood and soaring ceilings with the same spectacular view of Miami Beach marina. There are six private rooms for 30 to 10 people, a grand ballroom for up to 300 people, two walk in humidors and an upscale, beautiful lounge with day beds and a bar. “ With the delicious caipirinhas, cocktails, wines by the glass, spirits (the house specializes in single malts, aged cognacs, rums and other spirits) and music, this is to become the hottest place in Miami Beach,” said Restaurant manager Nelson Vedell. One can see from just stepping in that they take food and wine seriously: a huge floor to ceiling wine cooler at the entrance houses a selection of close to 1000 labels at different price points. The fixed price menu ($44.99) features high quality grilled meats prepared over an open fire by grill masters – there are over 60 people working in the kitchen - and served by roaming servers carving all you care to eat portions tableside. The “rodizio-style” sword-like skewers of 14 selections of perfectly grilled prime beef, prime cuts of filet mignon, parmesan pork loin, chicken breast wrapped in bacon, flank cut, roasted leg of lamb, seared top sirloin, Brazilian sausage, the house specialty picanha and other grilled meats glide by the table in an endless ballet of gauchos that keep coming until you turn your little card to show the red Stop sign. “People love this concept because we offer so many choices,” said Nelson Vedell, “ and because the food is ready as soon as you sit down. There is no waiting time.” The prix fixe menu includes an array of Brazilian specialties changing daily such as “moqueica de Peixe” or Brazilian fish stew, soups and an amazing salad bar with close to 100 items including fresh salads, fresh greens and marinated vegetables, aged cheeses, cold cuts, hot and cold specialty items and made-to-order sushi. The salad bar only option is available for $31.99 and allows diners to select items from the salad bar and sushi bar, and all desserts are included. Texas de Brazil at the Miami Beach Marina, 300 Alton Road, Miami Beach is open for lunch – (full menu $27.99; salad bar $22.99) and dinner (full menu $44.99; salad bar $31.99)daily, and for brunch on weekends (full menu $44.99; salad bar $31.99). Valet available; covered municipal parking is located across the street. (305) 695-7702; www.texasdebrazil.com.
