BATTLE OF THE CHEFS 2008 KICKS OFF ON MAY 28, AT LA CUISINE GOURMET, CORAL GABLES
On Wednesday, May 28, Downtown Coral Gables launches its Battle of the Chefs 2008 Summer Series at La Cuisine Gourmet with a duel between Chef Willy Hernandez of Caramelo Restaurant and Chef Marc Vidal of POR FIN Restaurant and Lounge. The chefs, are given a bag of “mystery” ingredients, provided by The Fresh Market in Coconut Grove. Each team has 45 minutes to produce three dishes. The competition is judged on taste, originality, and presentation.
Wednesday, June 25 will be The monthly cooking competition features a culinary challenge between two high profile Coral Gables’ chefs on the last Wednesday of each of the following summer months: May 28, June 25 (“Beef Battle” between Chef Chris Wakeman of Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar and Chef Pedro Aguilar of Morton’s The Steakhouse), and July 30. The event begins at 7:00 p.m. and admission is complimentary; however, a donation of $15 is encouraged. All donations will directly benefit The Buoniconti Fund to Cure Paralysis.

PRIX FIXE EXECUTIVE LUNCH AT BLU PIZZA E CUCINA, MARY BRICKELL VILLAGE, DOWNTOWN MIAMI
From Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. tol 4:30 p.m. Blu Pizza e Cucina is offering three prix fixe Executive Lunch menus with Chef Riccardo Tognozzi’s “Daily Creations.” At $15 for a two-course menu there is a choice of soup or salad. Pasta or risotto, soft drink and coffee. Three courses priced at $21 include soup or salad Italiana; a choice of pasta or risotto of the day, pizza or fish and a choice of three “piccoli dolci” desserts (petit individual portions); soft drinks and American coffee. The Two Executives – three courses priced at $37 for two – offers soup, salad Italiana or Suppli a la Romana; a choice of pasta or risotto of the day or pizza and three “piccoli dolci” desserts (petit individual portions); soft drinks and American coffee. SIX COURSE WAGYU TASTING MENU AT KOBE CLUB, SOUTH BEACH
Kobe Club Miami is now offering a six course Wagyu tasting menu ranging in prices from $95.00-$165.00 per person (tax and gratuity not included). Prepared by executive chef Tim Nickey, the six course menu begins with an “Amuse” of Kobe hot dog in puff pasty; followed by Kobe Club beef tartare prepared with American, Australian & Japanese Wagyu; diver scallop & braised American ‘Kobe’ short rib with roasted chanterelle mushrooms; and American ‘Kobe’ beef cheek ravioli in a truffle broth.
For the main entrée, diners get a choice of Wagyu strip loin (which determines the price of the menu): American Wagyu, 4 oz ($95); Australian Wagyu, 4 oz ($135); or Japanese Wagyu, 4 oz. ($165). All dishes are served with a side of hash browns with lobster, chorizo, red bell pepper & caramelized onions. Kobe Club’s signature desserts: beehive baked Alaska with honey ice cream; chocolate caviar with sweet vanilla blinis & raspberry crème fraiche; or assorted homemade sorbets.

MAY IS PASTA MONTH AT RAPHAEL RESTAURANT, LINCOLN RD., SOUTH BEACH
From May 4 to May 31, Raphael Restaurant offers a meal for two, for the price of one. The promotion which includes DJs on weekend nights and complimentary WiFi is valid for lunch or dinner with dishes like Black truffle and ricotta cheese ravioli in a light creamy sauce ($23); gnocchi in a four cheese sauce ($13); and linguini de mare with mussels, shrimp, clams, calamari, roasted onions sautéed in white wine ($19). ABOKADO INTRODUCES ABOKADO SOCIAL, DOWNTOWN MIAMI
Starting May 2, everyday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., the Japanese Pan-Latin restaurant Abokado Sushi offers Abokado Social - a Happy Hour with a discounted drink and bar menu: $3 draught beer; house martini’s and mojitos at $6 and wine by the glass at $6 with 5 rolls; edamame; individual Abokado nachos and Kushiage Cheese (panko-crusted queso blanco on skewers). The 12 to 14 menu options range in price from $5 to $7. Abokado Sushi is open Sundays through Wednesdays from Noon until 11:00 p.m. and Thursdays through Saturdays from Noon until Midnight. 900 S. NEW LUNCH MENU AT ATRIO LEVEL 25 AT CONRAD HOTEL, DOWNOTWN MIAMI
Atrio, the Conrad’s restaurant housed at Level 25, is offering a new lunch menu prepared by executive chef Michael Gilligan. There is a choice of appetizers ($10-$16) like chilled watermelon and Malibu soup, crab cakes and Ahi tuna “mini tacos” – seared tuna with guacamole on a crisp wonton chip; salads and flatbreads ($10-$18); sandwiches ($14-$18.50) from a classic grilled turkey panini with caramelized onions, teriyaki beef & brie wrap to Kobe beef burger on cilantro-infused brioche. Main courses ($22-$28) include pan-seared Tasmanian wild salmon, soy-honey baked chicken breast with three-bean salad, lime and hazelnut vinaigrette. NEW PRIX-FIXE MENU AND FRIDAY SOCIAL HOUR SPECIAL AT BOURBON STEAK MIAMI, TURNBERRY, AVENTURA
From Monday through Thursday Bourbon Steak Miami, a Michael Mina Restaurant, in the newly-renovated Fairmont Turnberry Isle Resort & Club in Aventura, offers a three-course prix-fixe menu ($55.00 per person) with for starters a choice of English pea soup over buttered brioche, Gulf shrimp tortellini and oyster mushrooms with Thai coconut curry; Watercress Goddess Salad; followed by a choice of dishes from the wood burning grill such as yellow tail snapper; NY Strip Steak, North Atlantic salmon, organic chicken with a selection of side dishes; and a selection of desserts.
Friday Social Hour, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. lists half priced signature cocktails (average price after discount, $7.00) such as the Bramble or the Key Lime Pie Martini with complimentary truffled popcorn and a selection of wines by the glass, beers, spirits and other cocktails at regular prices. TUSCAN TASTERS BAR MENU AT BRIO TUSCAN GRILLE, PEMBROKE PINES
Available from 3 p.m.-6 p.m. and 9 p.m. to closing Mondays through Fridays (in the bar area only), the $2.95 per-item price “Taste Tuscany Menu” features smaller-sized serving of some of the restaurant’s popular menu selections. Among the featured items are Calamari Fritto Misto, Shrimptini (Shrimp cocktail), Beef Carpaccio, mini BRIO Bistecca burgers and several flatbreads and bruschettas. OCEANAIRE SEAFOOD ROOM OPENS ALASKAN HALIBUT AND KING CRAB SEASON, DOWNTOWN MIAMI

To celebrate the start of fishing season (April 15th) for Alaskan Halibut and Alaskan King Crab – Executive Chef Sean Bernal at The Oceanaire Seafood Room in Mary Brickell Village has come up with dishes like pan-roasted Alaskan Halibut over parsnip puree, topped with cèpes and royal trumpet salad and drizzled with sweet corn butter, smartly paired with Orphelin red wine from Columbia Valley by sommelier Jorge Morgado; and Alaskan King Crab crusted halibut “al ajillo.”
During the season, Oceanaire nationwide will sell 40,000 pounds of Alaskan King Crab. The Miami restaurant serves 300 pounds of tuna per week, 12 different varieties of fish daily, and 12 different types of oysters daily.
Chef Sean Bernal has been selected to travel with the Alaskan King Crab fishing boat “Time Bandit” from the Discovery Channel’s show “The Deadliest Catch” this coming October before the end of the season in November. PRIX FIXE POWER LUNCH AT PRIME BLUE GRILLE, DOWNTOWN MIAMI
