Since it recently opened, Hakkasan, the beautiful  restaurant with an upscale Chinese Tea House décor – rooms divided by delicately carved teak screens, comfortable banquettes  – on the 4th floor of the Fontainebleau Hotel,  the import from London, England by Michelin-starred Hong Kong native  Alan Yau, has been celebrated for its exquisite traditional Cantonese food  and nightclubby vibe and, yes, its pricey dinners.

But high dining and sexy bar aside, Hakkasan has now opened its doors for lunch on Saturday and Sunday for a very reasonably-priced Chinese family style Dim Sum lunch – or weekend brunch if you will. Which means that families with children and friends in sneakers and sandals can comfortably enjoy an informal  Dim Sum meal with a variety of delicious teas – as well as sakes and wines -  on weekends  at the gorgeous restaurant  and be relaxed when the bill comes.

The menu includes classic Dim Sum dishes – all meant to be enjoyed family style – including a variety of dumplings: Chinese chive, three style mushrooms, grilled Shanghai, and Shanghai vegetable, accompanied by different types of sauces: from sweet to spicy.

Then come the rolls, hot and crispy, followed by a large selection of noodle and rice stir-fries such as Wild mushroom hand-pulled noodles ($14) or Seafood fried rice ($20) in XO sauce – in portions large enough for three of four people.

There’s a dramatic-looking  vegetarian braised tofu and aubergine claypot with black bean sauce ($16) and a good choice of Barbecue dishes and platters, soups and vegetable sides at prices ranging from  $6.00 to  $22.00. For desserts, other than the pandan soufflé with coconut sorbet and the chocolate fondant, there are some of the best sorbets in town in many delicious fresh fruit flavors such as guava, raspberry, strawberry and coconut.
